Adoption Agreement

The following is an excerpt from the Adoption Contract which adoptive individuals will ultimately be required to sign, agreeing to all of the following conditions.  If, after reading these conditions, you decide that you cannot, in good faith, comply with these conditions, please do not submit a Westie Rescue Adoption Application.
1. To provide the Westie with proper food, fresh water, adequate shelter, love and companionship at all times.

2.

To provide indoor quarters for overnight rest and inside quarters for confinement when Adopter and his/her household members are absent from the home.
3. To provide necessary exercise, either in a fenced area or walked on a leash.
4. To provide proper control and restraint over the adopted Westie and to never allow the Westie to run at large.  The Westie will be kept solely as a house pet.
5. To inform the SFBWHWTC within 30 days of any address or telephone number change.
6. To provide a fence around a swimming pool.
7. To provide veterinary treatment for the Westie when needed including vaccinations, parasite checks, dental care as well as heartworm and flea preventative as recommended by a licensed veterinarian and as required by local and county ordinances.
8. To have the Westie spayed/neutered (if not already done) before a date specified by the SFBWHWTC Rescue Committee and to provide the Club with written certification that this was done.
9. To ensure that the Westie wears an identification tag which includes the Adopter's name and current phone number at all times.  We additionally encourage the Adopter to professionally microchip the Westie.
10. To comply with all state, county and local laws and ordinances related to the keeping of the Westie, including license and leash laws.
11. To notify the SFBWHWTC Rescue Committee immediately if the Adopter finds, for any reason, that he/she is unable to keep the Westie.  The Westie will be returned to the SFBWHWTC Rescue Committee.  A Club member will assist in placing the Westie in another home.
12. To notify the SFBWHWTC Rescue Committee if the Westie is given to another family member.
13. To notify the SFBWHWTC Rescue Committee if the Westie is lost or stolen and to make every effort to locate the Westie.
14. To notify the SFBWHWTC Rescue Committee immediately in case of serious illness or injury to this Westie.  An attending veterinarian's report will be furnished to the SFBWHWTC in the event of the Westie's death.
15. To never sell, give away or abandon the Westie to any person, laboratory or business.  To never surrender the Westie to an animal shelter, humane society or similar organization.
16. To never subject the Westie to any biological, chemical or psychological experiment or other experimental program. To never use this Westie for breeding or fighting.
17. To allow a representative from the SFBWHWTC Rescue Committee to periodically check on the adopted Westie to assure compliance with items 1-16.
18. To stay in contact with SFBWHWTC Westie Rescue representatives for at least a period of one (1) year following adoption giving updates on the Westie.
19. To contact the SFBWHWTC Westie Rescue when the Westie expires.
20. To donate an adoption fee of $200 - $400 to the SFBWHWTC.
21. To accept possession of the Westie "as is" and release and waive any right against the SFBWHWTC for any damages to person or property caused by the Westie.
22. Non-compliance with any or all of the terms of this agreement gives the SFBWHWTC and the Rescue Committee the right to reclaim the Westie without refund of the adoption fee.

Westie Bill of Rights

1.  We have the right to be FULL MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY.  We thrive on social interaction, praise and love.

2.  We have the right to STIMULATION.  We need new games, new toys, new smells and  new experiences to be happy.

3.  We have the right to REGULAR EXERCISE.  Without it, we could become hyper, sluggish...or fat.

4.  We have the right to have FUN.  We enjoy acting like clowns now and then; don't expect us to be predictable all the time.

5.  We have the right to QUALITY HEALTH CARE.  Please stay good friends with our veterinarian.

6.  We have the right to a GOOD DIET.  Like some people, we don't know what's best for us.  We depend on you.

7.  We have the right to NOT BE REJECTED because of your expectations that we be great show dogs, watch dogs, hunters or baby-sitters.

8.  We have the right to receive PROPER TRAINING.  Otherwise, good relationships could be marred by confusion and strife and we could become dangerous to ourselves and others.

9.  We have the right to GUIDANCE and CORRECTION based on understanding and compassion, rather than abuse.

10. We have the right to LIVE WITH DIGNITY...and to die with dignity when the time comes.
