Loving comments about these special Westies from their new guardians...

EMMA, female, born February 23, 1995

Emma is a full partner in our family. She is with us and in the center when we are together. She affects our relationships with each other. She gives us all great loads of affection and love. She doesn’t try to please us by doing tricks or showing off. She just wants to be with us.

FRITZ, male, born December 18, 1997

Fritz is a nine-year-old Westie who was rescued by Bill and Ineke four years ago. Fritz is a hard working Westie who takes his jobs very seriously: barking at garbage trucks, sirens and skateboarders, and hunting down any small rodents, squirrels and birds who dare to invade his back yard or Buena Vista Park, where he goes for his daily walk. He has endless enthusiasm for toys and is always trying to engage Ineke and Bill in games of tug and fetch. He is known within his pack as “the connoisseur dog” and has trained Ineke to cook his favorite dishes, among them lamb chops and rotisserie chicken. He is deeply loved by Bill and Ineke and returns their love with loyalty, affection and endless fun.

BAILIE, male, born 1995

Bailie was adopted in January 2000 and he is now about 11 years old. He is a true Westie with a mind of his own! He is a tenacious squirrel chaser. Bailie loves his collection of toys and spreads them all over the house. He is always ready for a walk and a treat. Thanks to Pam Evans for bringing our lovable Westie into our lives!

CASPER, male, born December 15, 2002

We have had Casper for a little over a year. He fit right into our family and made himself at home right away. He spends his evenings and weekends patrolling the back yard to make sure he keeps out all cats, squirrels and birds. Then he will relax by playing fetch or just lay down and watch TV with Dad.

OLIVER, male, born October 8, 2001

Every day Oliver teaches me something new about what it means to be loyal, faithful and true – and no matter how many times your heart has been broken by those who broke faith, love is worth risking again. Unfortunately, his love does not extend to the mailman, to whom he delivers a death threat six days out of seven....

ANNABELLE, female, adopted January 2, 2000

Annabelle is a very sweet, friendly and loving little girl who is a joy to have around. She loves to socialize with dogs and people alike and loves to go for walks except when it is raining. Annabelle also loves to play chase and entertains herself with her many toys.

MAC TAVISH, male, born October 10, 2001

“Mac” is every bit a Westie, funny, clever and lively. He is smart and very affectionate (when he wants to be). For a terrier, Mac is pretty laid back. He is the best dog we’ve ever had.

~ Diane and Ed Haussler

ANGIE, female, born October 2, 2001

Angie has brought a special joy to our lives that only a Westie can bring. Her loving and playful personality keeps us smiling. She is a rough and tumble dog. Her loves are going for walks, patrolling her yard, chasing birds and squirrels, laying in the sun and dirt, watching TV, riding in the car, snuggling under the blanket and meeting people. Thanks to Auntie Pam and Westie Rescue, we have the greatest Westie in the world.

JOSEF, male, born May 30, 1998

When “Josef” came to our home 5 years ago, he was a feisty 3-year-old. Now he is loving and sweet. He has been attending obedience classes and has become a lot more social with other dogs as well as people. Josef loves to go snowshoeing with us. He brings us great joy!

DAISY, female, born March 1998

Daisy arrived just 3 weeks ago. She immediately jumped into our laps with lots of licks. She has a very sweet disposition and is friendly with everyone she meets. She is adjusting well to her new life with our other Westie Josef.

MICKEY, male, born August 2004

“Mr. Mickey” was an answer to my prayers since I lost my rescue Westie Bonnie to cancer. He is all boy... rather a combination of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. He has a growing knowledge of your vocabulary, loves people and is a watchdog for the neighborhood. He is the greatest hunter. I think the birds tease him. He is SPECIAL! The family loves him.

DIXIE, female, born October 23, 2005

Dixie was my foster pup for all of three weeks when she was adopted by me. Her trainer transformed her from a biting machine to the sweet baby girl she is today. He observed our interactions and quickly determined that she was treating me like a littermate primarily because I was acting like one. She can already sit on command and stay “in the vicinity” which is appropriate progress for her age. She loves everything on two feet and four paws. Dixie will be on the Lure Course today and I will take all bets on her lightening speed and Westie instincts. She and I are planning to do either Agility or Earthdog competition in the future.

DUDLEY, male, born November 18, 2005

Dudley is a precious cuddle-bug who is the perfect littermate for Dixie. They romp and wrestle and do excellent landscaping in my yard. Having two Westies is a family tradition and this pair is perfect. They have traded skills and never tempted to make Mom a littermate. They weigh the same though Dixie is a month older and they switch back and forth at being in charge. Toys are selected daily from their toy box and while some destruction has occurred - their pink bear’s ears went from whole to pierced, to strings, to being sheared for safety’s sake. They play hard with delightful creativity.

I just loved being “set-up” by our rescue squad, Sandy Gilmer and Pam Evans, who decided these pups were meant for me. To say that I am a lucky and thankful Westie owner is an understatement.

~ Mary Routson

CASPER, male, born October 1999

I have been in my home for over 5 years now. I have a little brother to play with and we love to romp through the house. I even let him jump all over me sometimes. But then I get up and show him who’s really the boss!!

~ Mary Adams

WEE WILLIE WALLACE, male, born August 5, 1997

Willie came from the Mendocino Humane Society four years ago. His original owner died, and the family couldn’t deal with him. It was a lucky event for us. He got along with our rescue Scottie, Jessie, giving us joy with his appealing eyes and cheerful disposition. He was lost when Jessie died last year but has taken on the task of civilizing Doogie, an irrepressible Scottie puppy. They are the best of friends giving us laughter and joy.

~ Mary Shepherd

CHLOE, female, 2 years old

Chloe came to me almost 2 years ago as a puppy and was wild and free. She enjoys playing with Jeanie, my Scottie rescue and chewing, but her favorite pastimes are sleeping on mom’s bed and running. She has a delightful personality and is truly a great dog who only sometimes forgets her training.

MAGGIE, female, 16 years old

Everyone in the family fell in love with Maggie from the moment we saw her, especially Devlin.  Devlin began taking care of Maggie during the car ride home.  She had a double ear infection and Devlin licked her ears to make them feel better.  Maggie was a mess both medically and physically, but with daily baths, trips to the vet and Pam’s expert grooming skills Maggie blossomed into a very pretty little Westie.  Devlin and Maggie were often seen around town on their walks and often photographed.  About 4 years ago it was Maggie’s turn to take care of Devlin.  She slept on the floor beneath the chair he was sleeping in, making sure none of the other dogs bothered him.  While we weren’t able to save Devlin, we were able to catch Maggie’s weak heart and get her a pacemaker in time.  After Devlin died we kept up Maggie’s walks, but it wasn’t the same.  Maggie kept cutting them shorter and shorter, until this past February when Maggie’s legs collapsed, making walking impossible.  Maggie still tries to get around, especially if we are not right there to carry her.  She’s back to daily baths and seems to enjoy them like she did when we first got her.  We don’t know what’s in store for Maggie’s future, We just enjoy her day by day. She is such a treat.

BEAU, male, born April 17, 2002

Beau is sweet and playful. He hides his treats in plain sight and plays fetch. He likes to cuddle and play with his favorite stuffed toy – a hedge hog. Beau is just a love and really enjoys going on bye-bye’s to “grandma’s house” and sitting in people's laps whenever possible. He is very much a part of my family.

~ Kim Kelley

ANGUS MAC DUFF, male, born June 2000

Angus McDuff is a very tenacious dog. When he puts his mind to something, that is it. He is committed to ridding the neighborhood of cats and squirrels. He loves his doggy friends, walks, the dog park and jumping up and catching hose water in his mouth.

~ Barbara Mordy

 MARDI, male, born unknown

Mardi is a very happy boy and always has something to say. He has a great attitude and has a warm Welcome and licks for all. Mardi loves to go for  walks and travel with his Dad, go to the dog park and play with his many doggy friends.

~ Michael Hyams

KELLIE, female, 14 years old

Kellie likes to sleep on pillows and cuddle with me every morning. She is the only dog I know who must be sewn for to keep her warm.

~ Paul and Leah Powers

COLLIN, male, 14 ½ years old

Collin likes to give kisses. His ideal morning is to get up, then eat and go back to bed with me to be spoiled. He LOVES his food!!

~ Paul and Leah Powers

KRISTIE, female, 11 years old

Kristie is in foster care at our home. Her previous owner who had her from a puppy was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died six weeks later. She bit Dianne in the face the first night in our home and has nipped Pam several times. She is learning to trust... in baby steps.

~ Foster Caregivers, Dianne Pritchard and Pam Evans

ANNIE, female, age unknown

My name is Annie. Pam asked my Mom to come and get me at the vet and take me home. Things are much better now. I can’t come to the picnic today because I still get scared sometimes. I can’t see but my nose works just fine. I love my family very much. I wag my tail a lot to tell my Mom, sister and Westie friends that I am happy.

~ Colene Rowell and Kristie Rowell

LADY WHITNEY, female, age unknown

Lady Whitney is a happy bundle of energy.  She is definitely "in charge" and tells everyone "what to do", especially her Westie brother, Ian.  Whit chases squirrels in the yard and loves her toys.  At night she watches TV with Kristie and snoozes.  We love her very much!

ANGUS, male, 9 years old

Angus is our nine-year-old baby. He came to us as a foster dog. It was not love at first sight. He was overgrown, overweight and tended to pee and drip water everywhere. But we soon discovered that we had a diamond in the rough. With exercise, training, and a haircut, he became our beloved Gus. By day, he is a true terrier, patrolling the yard for chasing squirrels and birds. His favorite activities are acting like a circus dog sitting on his haunches, front paws in the air, chasing at squirrels, barking at birds and shredding tennis balls. Angus does not have a care in the world; he is happy with everything we do. At night, he becomes a complete lap dog, finding the perfect lap to settle in for the night. WE just love his playful nature and utter sweetness. Extreme makeover dog has won our hearts. We are so grateful to have Smiling Gus as part of our family.

SUGAR, female, 3 years old

Sugar is our three-year-old baby but don’t let her name fool you… Sugar is 100% terrier. Of course, she is prone to endless hugs and face licks but when it time to play, she wants to do it now… not later… now!!!  We absolutely adore her combination of sweetness and true Westie spunk. She runs the show: on walks, Sugar always has to be in the lead; inside, she makes sure Angus knows (by barking in his ear) that there is no ball playing in the house; and to all she lets it be known that she is a true terrier princess! Sugar follows Dad around the house unless there are squirrels to chase or birds to scare. She loves playing tug of war with her favorite toy, the Jack. We are so grateful to Sugar for introducing us to the joys of Westitude.

WALLACE, male, born July 30, 2000

Wallace is the love of my life; I am so, so lucky to have this smart, loving, quirky and utterly comical dog be a part of my life -- and it's all thanks to Westie Rescue of Northern California and Pam Evans. Wallace is complex; he alternately enjoys playing the lapdog, the fearless adventurer, the comic, the Garfield-like fat cat, the Lone Ranger, the social butterfly and the eligible bachelor. But whatever mood he's in, he's always there for me -- as I am for him. He is a gorgeous dog -- like most Westies are. But he doesn't know it. I'll find him looking at me with a "may I help you with something" look with on his cute face while an expired daddy long-legs spider dangles from his cheek. He LOVES to throttle and abuse his furry play-bone, but just the one (he won't abide any other toys). He'll yank that poor stuffed bone around, sending it flying through the air, and then -- finally -- he'll bear down on it with his front paws and mouth for 15 minutes or so. When many humans are around exclaiming and chatting, he makes his displeasure at being excluded from the conversation known by letting out a long, guttural howl, which causes everyone to shower him with attention and wonder. He is generous in allowing his beloved human to share affection with others, but a hug or kiss between me and another that exceeds a few seconds compels him to furiously "dig" the floor until I come to my senses.  I don't know what I did -- or what I'd do --without my best friend.
