Loving comments about these special Westies from their new guardians...

CASPER – Male, born October 1999

Casper has been and will continue to be a Great Joy. He has matured from the scared, insecure puppy we first brought home into a confidant, loving dog. He is not only the love of our household but also the hit of the campground. Everybody loves Casper, The Friendly terrier.

ANNABELLE – Female, 7 years old

Annabelle is a very sweet and loving 7-year old. She loves going for walks and visiting other dogs. She loves receiving attention from anyone who will give it to her! Annabelle loves car rides and shopping at the pet stores – she NEVER wants to leave! I feel very blessed to have Annabelle in my life. She is an absolute joy.

TRAVIS – Male, 4 years old

I was so fortunate to get Travis when he was only 4 months old – his original owner was allergic. His misfortune – My Jackpot! Travis was a typical Westie puppy – willful, stubborn but always adorable. At about 14 months of age, things calmed down and he became a wonderful companion. He gets to be the Mayor of the Dog Park on a daily basis in Foster City – come see him there sometime!

DIXIE – Female, born October 2005

Ready for her second appearance in the Parade of Rescues, Dixie who is a year and a half old, was treated to a full service spa treatment so that her sassy swoopy albeit non-Westie tail would demonstrate her flair and pizzazz. She is a very happy girl now in charge of her brother Dudley in addition to her usual landscaping duties. Her kitty patrol skills have been honed during the past year and she has added a new skill. Her futile attempts to dissuade skateboarders from passing the house are both loud and furious. She is completely happy to meet all dogs in San Francisco, and the bigger they are, the happier she is. When she and Dudley visit their boarding Puppy Palace in Sebastopol, they are grouped with whippets, standard poodles, cattle dogs and labs. Apparently the little Yorkie group and miscellaneous toy breeds were unprepared for her enthusiasm. She is a sweet but feisty little girl who wants her way in all matters dog. My life has been vastly improved because of her love and devotion.

DUDLEY – Male, born November 2005

Dudley is just one month younger than Dixie and they are inseparable. It was love at first sight when they were introduced a year ago. Dudley is shy and has some interesting fetishes. He enjoys all dog toys but his favorites are my Giants’ ponytail squeegee and any old rag found about the house. I refer to them as “Dudley’s Linens” and keep them properly laundered. The amount of cloth he can stuff in the big jaw is astonishing. He is also the busiest Westie on earth. His record so far is playing with three different toys in a second and getting all three directly on the squeaker. Though he outweighs his sister by 8 pounds, he defers to her when wrestling... wisely rolling over on his back instead of pinning her. He continues to be afraid of loud noises like motorcycles and buses but he is getting better with desensitization training. Let me know if you need to borrow his CD of fireworks. Dudley and his sister are the joy of my life and we three are ever so grateful to the Westie Rescue’s CO-chairs Sandy Gilmer (godmother and Dudley’s favorite person to launch into) and Pam Evans.

JOSEF – Male, born May 1998

Josef joined our family just 6 years ago with unending love for us and the outdoors. His favorite times are walking the Bay Trails, following our snowshoes in the Sierras and getting applause for recalls at Novice Training. While knee surgery has slowed his pace, his sense of adventure is still strong.

DAISY – Female, born March 1998

Daisy arrived just 1 year ago. She has the sweetest disposition; she’ll run up to you, sit a moment then wants to lick you to death! Daisy joined our weekly obedience classes with Josef and fit in immediately with all the other dogs. She is very intelligent and loves to chase (what else?) squirrels!

CHARLIE – Male, 8 years old

Charlie is a very loving Westie. He goes out of his way to greet everyone within leash length while he walks. Charlie’s favorite activity is “napping” with his Uncle Jimmy. We think Charlie wears a watch because he makes sure that he and his sister are fed at the same time for breakfast and dinner. When Charlie barks, food better be in the bowl!!!

ANGEL – Female, 7 ˝ years old

Angel is the BOSS of the house! She needs to know what is going on at all times. She always has to be in front or first at everything. If we have done something she doesn’t approve of... we get the “STARE”! She will stare at us until she is satisfied. Usually all we have to do is rub her belly and all is forgiven. Angel and her brother Charlie are inseparable – Both in Life and in Our Hearts!

JACK – Male, born June 2003

In December 2005, our beloved Westie of 14 ˝ years “Buddy” died. We were heartbroken and lost by his death. We discussed the option of getting another Westie right away but felt no other dog could replace our “Buddy”.

Then in December 2006, a friend told us about a 3-˝ year old male Westie named “Jack” that needed to be rescued right away. Without hesitation, my husband and I drove to Salinas to meet the family that “no longer wanted him”. The second we met “Jack”, we fell in love and rescued him away from his horrible situation. He had been neglected and was in poor condition. We rushed him to the Vet and after months of vet appointments, medication, proper nutrition and unconditional Love, Jack is doing extremely well. We love him so much. He is so sweet and so loving. We believe that our “Buddy” sent “Jack” to us and we couldn’t be happier!

ANNIE – Female, born September 1999

Annie is more dignified and sedate than most Westies but full of enthusiasm for chasing squirrels, pigeons, tennis balls (tho’ not for retrieving them), squeaker toys and for, most of all, meeting people. She stops to talk to everyone she meets on our walks and is a champion tail wagger. She loves walking in Golden Gate Park, Fort Funston and to the neighborhood pet store where goodies are offered. She is also a Champion chowhound.

She does not care, however, for firecrackers, harnesses, raincoats other dogs in her house (though outside or in other peoples houses dogs are greeted with pleasure).

Right now she is in training to be a Therapy Dog – visiting people in hospice, nursing homes, senior centers and schools. Providing a perfect use for all that tail wagging.

Annie is a great delight: an affectionate, loving pal, a daily joy to all her friends but especially to me.

SUGAR – Female, born February 2003

Sugar is our 4 year old baby but don’t let her name fool you... she is 100% terrier. Of course, she is prone to endless hugs and face licks but when it’s time to play, she wants to do it NOW... not later... NOW!!!

We absolutely adore her combination of sweetness and true Westie spunk. She runs the show: on walks, Sugar always has to be in the lead; inside, she makes sure Angus knows (by barking in his ear) that there is no ball playing in the house; and to all she lets it be known that she is the true terrier princess!

Sugar follows Dad around the house unless there are squirrels to chase or birds to scare. She loves playing tug of war with her favorite toy – the Jack.

We are so grateful to Sugar for introducing us to the Joys of Westitude.

ANGUS – Male, born February 1997

Angus is our 10-year-old baby. He came to us as a foster dog. It was love at first sight. He was overgrown, overweight and tended to pee and drip water everywhere. But we soon discovered that we had a diamond in the rough. With exercise, training and a haircut, he became our beloved Gus.

By day, he is a true terrier, patrolling the yard and chasing squirrels and birds. His favorite activities are acting like a circus dog – sitting on his haunches with his front paws up in the air, chasing squirrels, barking at birds and shredding tennis balls. Angus does not have a care in the world; he is happy with everything we do. At night, he becomes a complete lap dog, finding the perfect lap to settle in for the night.

We just love his playful nature and utter sweetness. Extreme makeover dog has won our hearts. We are so grateful to have “Smiling Gus” as part of our family.

WEBER – Male, born February 2004

Since our house seemed a bit too calm with just two Westies, We were happy to take in Weber as our foster dog. We immediately fell in love with him!!! He was so sweet, though a little shy with our other 2, Sugar and Angus. Slowly but surely he gained his confidence and now wrestles with great enthusiasm with his forever family

What a wonderful addition he has been!!!

CHARLIE – Male, born August 2006

Just when we thought we had enough Westies... We decided to add Charlie (the son of our dog Weber) to our family. We were a little worried that 3 dogs plus a 2-month-old puppy might be too much. But, no, it has been absolute joy. It has been so much fun for us to raise a Westie puppy! Charlie is adorable and filled with true Westie Spirit. He loves playing with Sugar, Angus and Weber. He can endlessly wrestle and play tug of war. But, like the others, he also loves cuddling. We think, with Charlie, our Westie family is complete.

ANGIE – Female, born October 2001

Angie is our first rescue Westie. We were very lucky to be at the right place, at the right time to have this special “princess” join our family. Angie’s duties include keeping all squirrels and other critters out of her yard. Her new sister Mattie is a ready partner to her frequent charges across the yard to chase the latest trespasser. She is a total joy to have around. She is certainly one of the happiest dogs you will ever meet. When Angie is off duty she enjoys watching TV and snuggling with her people. We love our special little rescue!

~ Lisa Martino & Linda Stockdale

MATTIE – Female, 6 ˝  years old

Mattie, the latest addition to our family, has been a wonderful Westie rescue success story. Originally we were to be only foster parents but we soon fell in love with our sweet soul Mattie. Her nickname is lover girl. She has such a sweet disposition and has brought so much love to our house it is hard to believe she had such a challenging former life. She loves her new yard and has joined forces with Angie (our other rescue), chasing squirrels and guarding the yard. Her main job is to rid all toys of their squeakers. Our lives have been enriched by her presence. We are fortunate to have such a great rescue Westie.

BONNIE PRINCE CHARLIE – Male, 4 years old

Bonnie Prince Charlie, well named by his first rescue family – Marge and Dave in Fairfield, is adjusting well over this past year in his permanent home in Santa Clara with Rocky and Goliath – two Chihuahua buddies and his human companions John and Janice. Charlie is energetic, very aware and sometimes vocal.

Charlie loves to play fetch and searches behind the TV for animals he sees while watching the Animal Planet.

 KALIE – Female, age unknown

Kalie has a tail-wag of happiness!! She likes to meet new people and dogs. She was rescued from the pound in Atlanta, GA by the Rescue Association there and adopted by Leslie in 1989 as a companion for Nitro (her 1st Westie). Kalie is the Boss and will take Nitro’s treats and food, if allowed. She must have missed some meals early on, yet she is a great pet with a wagging tail and a friendly disposition.
