Loving comments about these special Westies from their new guardians...

DIXIE – Female, born October 2005

Dixie is two this year and is participating in her 3rd parade. This darling girl has had a major adventure this past July when she and her guardian and big brother Dudley were attacked by a 50-pound raccoon in her yard. She received ten puncture wounds and Mom got slashed and bitten. Dixie proved to be the comeback kid as she laid in the yard and watched the fence where the wild animal had appeared the evening before. She was sure she would win round two. Needless to say, Mom was not impressed and took Dixie and Dudley to Four Seasons for a week away from the yard while the raccoons were trapped. They so impressed their Mom with their immediate adaptation to high-rise hotel that they moved in December to a condo beneath Coit Tower in downtown San Francisco. She is now a regular tourist attraction and is an official greeter and ambassadog of the City.

DUDLEY – Male, born November 2005

Dudley is month younger than Dixie but as you can see, he is larger by 8 pounds. Dixie loves having a “big” little brother and they continue to frolic like puppies. Dixie was really counting on him during the raccoon attack but he is a smart Westie. After a frantic search for him, he was located waiting on the second floor for the commotion to die down. Not a scratch on our brave Dudley.  He faced the biggest challenge from the relocation since he has always been sensitive to loud noises and he moved from a quiet critter ridden area to a noisy downtown with buses and trolleys. His new digs have lots of other doggie residents including a Great Dane, two Beagles, spaniels and a baby Malamute. He and Dixie are enrolled in the Telegraph Landing playgroup directed by a dog trainer. They go to a fenced park and play ball every weekday and during the weekend, he and Dixie play ball with Mom on a fenced roof Dog Park on top of the high-rise. He is acclimating well and next year his blurb will probably tell of trolley rides. Now he serves Dixie as Westie-in-waiting to the Ambassadog.

DAISY – Female, born March 1998

Daisy is our family ambassador – greeting everyone she meets… except the mailman! She joined our family just two years ago last month. She is so very sweet and filled with boundless energy. Novice training, fast walks and trips to the snow are her favorite adventures!

JOSEF – Male, born May 1998

It’s been 7 years since Josef “Came Home”.  We bonded immediately. Although two knee surgeries have slowed his pace, he eagerly explores new trails and loves to follow our snowshoes in the Sierras. Some of his proudest moments are performing recalls at Novice training.

BRITTNEY – Female, approximately 4 years old

Miss Brittney is a very special little Westie girl. Pam announced last fall that two pregnant females would be coming into the rescue program from a puppy mill operation that was shut down in Arkansas. Little Brittney lost all her puppies and needed to find a home. YES, it was LOVE at first sight!  We are always together and slurpy kisses are the Best. Thank you, Pam.

ROSIE – Female, 9 years old

Rosie is an almost nine-year-old female Westie who has been with me for almost two months now. She is totally blind but has compensated so well with her sense of smell and hearing, she “fools” people all the time.  She is an adorable, good-natured little lady who has brought great joy into my life!

BAILIE – Male, approximately 13 years old

We adopted Bailie in 1998 and he has given us 10 years of joy. Although he has slowed down with age, he still chases squirrels and enjoys his walks in the park. He loves to play with our grandchildren and misses them when they leave. He is a wonderful addition to our family. Thanks, Pam, for bringing Bailie into our lives!

CHARLIE – Male, 7 years old

The “Bonnie Prince” continues his adventures in Santa Clara. His ability to focus and respond to anything animal oriented on TV is amazing! Charlie looks forward to Vasona where he can mingle with lots of people and pooches and his Special Friends Pam, Dianne and his first foster parents Marge & Dave.  As for the lure course, Charlie sez…. “If it ain’t a REAL squirrel, I’m NOT chasing it!"

CAMERON – Male, 2 years old

Cameron is a special Westie. He loves everybody. He wants to kiss every person he meets. He wants to play all day with his toys when he isn’t taking hi walks. At night, he sleeps with his head on the pillow and is always covered with his favorite plaid blanket. He is my buddy and has enriched my life so much. Every day is a joy having him to love. Thank you, Pam. He will bring me many years of Happiness.

FRITZ – Male, age 11 years old

Fritz enjoys chasing squirrels in Buena Vista Park, going to our local café for a “Palmier au Beurre”. Like all Westies, he does have a few quirks such as chasing skateboards, barking at garbage trucks, howling at fire engines and taking up WAY too much of the bed. Despite all that, we love him!

CASPER ADAMS – Male, age 8 1/2 years old

Casper has been a real joy to have. He is probably the most mellow Westie ever – until a squirrel or another dog enters his view. Then he is 100% TERRIER. But with people, he is 100% LOVER.  What a GREAT dog!!

CASPER PURVINS – Male, born October 1998

Our Casper came to us in January of 2002. We had recently lost our other Westie after 16 years. Someone told me about Westie Rescue so I did a search on line and there he was!  Sandy Gilmer encouraged us to fill out an application and was convinced we would be a good match. We weren’t sure about adopting another dog so soon but Casper quickly captured our hearts with his loving and affectionate ways. He had been left outside for 3 years and wasn’t even housebroken!  Casper was so eager to please that he quickly learned his “inside manners”. His fur was thin and discolored from numerous fleabites and a poor diet. After a few trips to the groomer, he has turned out to be quite a handsome boy. Casper has brought us much joy and companionship. We were blessed to have him join our family.

TRAVIS – Male, 5 years old

I hit the jackpot when Pam called me in August of 2003 telling me there was a 4-month-old Westie that needed a new home.  I had lost my beloved Lindsey 3 months before and knew I needed a new fuzzy face in my life.  Yes, puppy hood was a challenge but he has turned into a wonderful dog. Travis is fun and funny. He loves me and REALLY loves his Mama #2 Janet, who is his dog sitter and a huge fan of his.  Travis is proud to be presenting his new brother Elmo at the Spring Fling. Travis loves to play with Elmo and shares the bed well with him and their owner.

ELMO – Male, age 3 years old

Elmo was found in a shelter in Little Rock, Arkansas and was then fostered by a dog angel named Ursula. As much as they loved each other, Ursula knew Elmo needed a new home since it was a bit crowded in the house with 13 dogs and 5 cats that also needed new homes. Lee decided it was time for Travis to have a companion so she flew out to get him.  Elmo fit into our lives immediately and he is a welcome addition to our family. Elmo is a JOY. Right now, he is working on his potty training as well as his separation anxiety when Lee leaves the house.  This is the first time I have had two dogs at the same time and it is such fun to see them interacting.

SUGAR – Female, born February 2003

Sugar is our 5-year old baby, but don’t let her name fool you…she is 100% terrier. Of course, she is prone to endless hugs and face licks, but when it is time to play, she wants to do it NOW…not later…NOW!!!  We absolutely adore her combination of sweetness and true Westie spunk. She runs the show on walks, Sugar always has to be in the lead; inside, she makes sure Gus knows (by barking in his ear) that there is no ball playing in the house; and to all she lets it be known that she is the true terrier princess! Sugar follows Dad around the house unless there are squirrels to chase or birds to scare. She loves playing tug of war with her favorite toy- the Jack. We are so grateful to Sugar for introducing us to the Joys of Westietude.

GUS – Male, born February 1997

Gus is our 11-year-old baby. He came to us as a foster dog. It was not love at first sight!  He was overgrown, overweight and tended to pee and drip water everywhere. But we soon discovered that we had a diamond in the rough. With exercise, training, and a haircut, he became our beloved Gus. By day, he is a true terrier, patrolling the yard and chasing squirrels and birds. His favorite activities are acting like a circus dog- sitting on his haunches with his front paws in the air, chasing squirrels, barking at birds, and shredding tennis balls. Gus does not have a care in the world; he is happy with everything we do. At night, he becomes a complete lap dog, finding the perfect lap to settle in for the night. We just love his playful nature and utter sweetness. Extreme makeover dog has won our hearts. We are so grateful to have “Smiling Gus” as part of our family.

WEBER – Male, born February 2004

Since our house seemed a bit too calm with just two Westies, we were happy to take in Weber as our foster dog. We immediately fell in love with him!!!  He was so sweet, though a little shy with our other 2, Sugar and Gus. Slowly but surely he gained confidence and now wrestles with great enthusiasm with his forever family. What a wonderful addition he has been!!!

CHARLIE – Male, born August 2006

Just when we thought we had enough Westies…we decided to add Charlie (the son of our dog Weber) to our family. We were a little worried that 3 dogs plus a 2-month-old puppy might be too much. But, no, it has been absolute joy. It has been so much fun for us to raise a Westie puppy!  Charlie is adorable and filled with true Westie spirit. He loves playing with Sugar, Gus, and Weber. He can endlessly wrestle and play tug of war. But, like the others, he also loves cuddling. We think that, with Charlie, our Westie family is complete.

 ANGIE & MATTIE – Females, born October 2001 & May 1999

We are the proud mothers of Angie and Mattie.  Angie, our first rescue in 2004, will always hold a special place in our hearts. Mattie, arriving in 2006 has made our family complete. The girls, as we call them, are inseparable, doing everything together. They have learned each others’ good and bad habits. Their favorite activity is of course chasing squirrels from their yard. We are so thankful for the work Rescue does! They have given us our precious babies and have helped so many other Westies who deserve a safe and loving home. Our lives have been enriched by our wonderful rescues.

ANNABELLE – Female, age 8 years old

Annabelle and I have been together for 4 years. Annabelle is an absolute delight, a real joy and a sweet little girl. She is very special and loves to say “Hi” to other dogs and people. Annabelle loves to play chase in the house, making up a different set of rules every time. Thank you, Pam and Dianne for my little girl.

SPROUT – Female, born August 2006

Life without Sprout is something we just couldn’t imagine. She is a “cuddle bug” and is always so full of LOVE. She is extremely smart and can run like a gazelle.  She was only 8 weeks old when she came to live with us and it was love at first sight. Zoe, our other Westie adopted her immediately. They love each other so much and are always together. They are close in age but Sprout has accepted the fact that Zoe is the “boss”. They spend hours on vermin-squirrel patrol but thankfully have never caught anything. They love it when I share my yogurt and strawberries. Life is wonderful at our house.
