Resist the temptation to
impulsively buy puppies from pet
shops.
The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)
estimates that at least 90% of puppy mill puppies are sold in pet stores. The SPCA states "those who buy puppy mill dogs can
never be sure what temperament such dogs will have since they are
often inbred". They could have genetic defects, diseases
and life-long behavior problems.
In the case of Westies,
you should be aware of the numerous hereditary related health
issues that can occur when breeding is done without regard to
pedigree or bloodline research.
Responsible breeders do not
sell their puppies in pet
shops.
What You Can Do
Puppies purchased from
pet stores only serve to perpetuate the misery
of the breeding dogs
confined in the mills. Do not be a part of this
vicious cycle of abuse.
