We
understand that due to life circumstances beyond your control, you
may find the need to surrender your Westie into our Rescue
Program. Be assured that we are here to help you and your
Westie.
If this
is your current situation, please contact our Rescue Chair, Mary
Martha
Young at
MaryFiona@aol.com or at 415-395-0914.
You will
be asked to complete the Westie Profile Form which
is a medical and personality profile form that allows you to tell us all
about your Westie. This will help us find the best home
for your Westie. We would also appreciate a photo of your
Westie.
To supplement your pet's medical
history, we require a
Health Certificate for all Westies age 10
and over, signed by your veterinarian.
Save the Westie Profile
Form and Health Certificate to your
hard drive to complete. Return the completed
forms attached to an email addressed to
MaryFiona@aol.com.
WHATEVER YOU DO -- PLEASE DO NOT LIST YOUR WESTIE ON
CRAIG'S LIST AND DO NOT TAKE YOUR WESTIE TO A SHELTER.
CRAIG'S LIST DOES NOT SCREEN RESPONDERS AND YOUR WESTIE
COULD END UP AS BAIT FOR DOG FIGHTING OR BE PURCHASED BY
LABORATORIES. SHELTERS ARE NOW OVERRUN WITH DOGS WHO HAVE
BEEN LEFT BEHIND BY FORECLOSED OWNERS AND YOUR DOG MAY BE
LOST IN THE CROWD. WESTIE RESCUE WILL PLACE YOUR WESTIE IN
A LOVING HOME THAT HAS BEEN PRESCREENED AND VETTED. WE HAVE
MORE APPROVED APPLICANTS THAN RESCUE WESTIES AND EACH CASE
IS GIVEN PERSONAL ATTENTION TO MATCH YOUR WESTIE WITH THE
BEST NEW FOREVER HOME. WE HAVE DECADES OF EXPERIENCE AND
OUR LOVE FOR WESTIES IS PARAMOUNT.
If your
Westie is accepted into our program, we will coordinate a place
and time for you to relinquish your Westie to one of our rescue
program volunteers. At that time we will require you to
sign an Owner Release form relinquishing ownership of your
Westie to the SFBWHWTC.
Our rescue
program is a service of the San Francisco Bay West Highland
White Terrier Club (SFBWHWTC) and we are affiliated with the
West Highland White Terrier Club of America (WHWTCA). We follow the
WHWTCA Code of Conduct
and our own rescue program'sCode of
Ethics.
If
you have any questions regarding your Westie's allergies or
behavior issues, please call us as we are also here to help
with problems that may arise. We
would like to help you find a solution so you will be able to
keep your Westie a member of the family in good standing.
We will
either answer your questions or we will direct you to experts
who can assist you.
